Using Imagination and Skill to Communicate Ideas in Visual Form

Welcome to the Art Page.

You might only have art once a week, but that creativity and skill go a long way. You are now looking closer at reality. You are a scientist of the visible world. You are the one who translates what you see skillfully with graphite, ink, paint, paper, canvas, fiber, metal, and clay. The message you communicate through artwork launches you past numbers and words. It can be read by people of ALL languages and abilities.

Congratulations!

SPRING Art News:

The focus in Sixth Grade is on caricatures.  Students will exaggerate features, while incorporating a good likeness of their subject.

Seventh graders and Eighth graders are focusing on the use of color and form also - with a unit on Chagall and fantasy in art.
Both seventh and eighth grade students will have an opportunity to work with Mr. Rodger Zarembiski, a professional artist and parishoner at St. Pius X School (and former parent!), as they create a set of village houses reminiscent of the Russian villages Chagall painted from memory. These will be displayed during our school's musical this year:
Fiddler on the Roof. Opens March 2!!
Seventh grade students will also be creating complex color wheels using geometric patterns ( this knowledge is a precursor to the Cubist style which influenced Chagall), while eighth grade students will paint their own version of a Chagall painting, using colors and symbols important to their lives.

March 12-30th: 7th and 8th graders will stretch their imaginations and skill with " squiggle art", in which they create a scene from a few squiggles given to them on a page. These will be displayed in the Middle School wing.
In the weeks before and after our Spring break, 7th graders will be working on a landscape and Tessalations (using geometry in art, as in the works of Escher),  and 8th graders will be working on the art of Ancient Egypt, as well as Indian and Islamic art.
