Becoming Catholic

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) and the Rite of Christian Imitation of Children (RCIC) are the processes by which people can be baptized into the Christian community and come into full communion with the Catholic Church.  The rite is a renewal of the ancient rite within the Church and is made up of several stages which the catechumens (non-baptized) and candidates (those baptized in other Christian denominations) pass through on their journey.

First and foremost, the RCIA/RCIC process is a journey of conversion to Jesus Christ.  The Catechumen and Candidate is called to deepen their relationship with Christ and to learn the teachings of the Catholic Church.  Each time we meet as a class we pray, read scriptures, hear a talk on an element of Catholic belief and have small group discussion.  In the small group discussion, we reflect on how God has, is,orcan work in our life based on that evenings topic.  It is a chance to enter into the Mystery of Christ and God’s merciful love.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Children (RCIC)

RCIC is a program for school age children and teens who desire Baptism or have participated in minimal formal Faith Formation and wish to complete their initiation sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation. Preparation is tailored to meet the Sacramental needs and age of the child. Children will participate in Wednesday night Faith Formation classes or attend the St. Pius X School during their preparation and meet individually (with parent or sponsor involvement) or in a small classroom setting with a Catechist to prepare for the reception of the sacraments. Study includes an overview of Catholic teachings, traditions and sacramental preparation. Family involvement is encouraged. Children will participate in several Rites throughout the year.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

RCIA is a program for unbaptized adults (and older teens) who desire to receive the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist) or for those who have been baptized in other Christian traditions to enter the Catholic Church and receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist. Preparation for the sacraments starts in the fall and includes participation in several Rites throughout the year. Sacraments are received at the Easter Vigil. Classes are held on Wednesday evenings from 7:15 pm – 8:30 pm.

Inquiry sessions are held a few times during the year as well as by appointment the Director of Faith Formation. During the inquiry nights an overview of the RCIA/RCIC programs is given and their will be an opportunity to ask questions.
