Updates:

Course 8 Cathedral Tour: As a reminder, Course 8 is a self guided tour that the student will do with their sponsor and/or parent. This replaces the May 11 group tour. Students were given their packets in the April confirmation class. If you have misplaced or did not attend, please contact Julie Olson at 651-762-3632 or jolson@churchofstpiusx.org to arrange for you to pick up the materials. This course should be completed and homework turned in before June 30.

Sponsor/Parent Orientation: The re-scheduled required sponsor/parent orientation is May 14 at 6:30 pm in the Community Rooms. Please refer to the Sponsor/Parent Orientation section below for a list of the required information which needs to be turned in at the Orientation.

Confirmation for Teens

Prerequisites: 
1 year enrolled in St. Pius X school 8^th grade curriculum or 1 year of 8^th grade Faith Formation.  Attend New Candidate Orientation on May 3^rd.  No candidates will be accepted into the program without attending Orientation in May.  New parishioners joining St. Pius X may be granted exception to the May Orientation.

** Teens under the age of 17 needing Baptism, First Communion and First Reconciliation in addition to Confirmation are prepared through a personalized RCIC process in accordance with the sacraments that are still needed. Contact the Coordinator with specific questions if these circumstances apply.

Confirmation Preparation Process - What’s involved
Registration for the Confirmation Program begins in the spring of 8^th grade.  All candidates must complete 8^th grade curriculum either in the school or in Faith Formation before they are allowed to enter the program.   During the 9^th grade year and after, participation in the High School Faith Formation program on Wednesday nights is also expected.

St. Pius X’s Confirmation program consists of:

·Parent/ Sponsor Orientation on Tuesday May 14 6:30 pm ·Our receipt of your completed registration form, baptismal certificate, and program fee

·Our receipt of Sponsor information and signed documents from the Sponsor’s Pastor

·Attendance at the May 3^rd Orientation at St. Pius X

·Completion of 8 Courses and corresponding homework

·1 Overnight Confirmation retreat (students select from different options available in the area, such as NET, D-week, TEC, or Steubenville North)

·Confirmation Interview with Fr. Jay/ Confirmation Coordinator

Class Time:
Classes are held once per month, October 2013 – April 2014.  Please note that there is a time change for the Courses in 2013-2014:  classes will be held on Sunday afternoons, from 12:00 Noon until 1:30 PM in the Community Rooms. 

Candidates who begin the process in the spring of the 8^th grade year are Confirmed in the fall of 10^th grade if they have completed all program requirements. At the completion of all courses and corresponding homework, candidates must be interviewed by Fr. Jay and the Confirmation Coordinator in order to be Confirmed. Dates and times for interviews will be posted in accordance with the Sacrament of Confirmation date (assigned by the Cathedral) and Fr. Jay’s schedule.

IMPORTANT DATES FOR YOUR CALENDAR:

A Parent/Sponsor Orientation is set for Tuesday May 14, 2013 from 6:30-8:30 pm in the Community rooms.  If your candidate’s chosen sponsor lives a distance away and cannot attend, a sponsor packet with instructions will be provided to you to give to them.   

A letter and registration forms will be mailed out to all eligible 8^th grade families through Faith Formation and St. Pius X school. An email will also be sent through the school and through currently registered 8^th grade families in the Faith Formation program.

New Candidates MUST attend Orientation on Friday, May 3^rd, from 5:00-10:30 pm at St. Pius X.  A NET Team will do an evening retreat/ introduction to the Sacrament of Confirmation. Candidates will also receive an explanation of St. Pius X’s Confirmation program.  Dinner will be provided that evening.

Parents must bring completed registration form, Baptismal certificate, and the program materials fee with them to the orientation on April 11, 2013. Registrations will not be accepted or processed if any of the above are missing.  If there is any difficulty in providing baptismal certificate or paying the fee, contact the Coordinator prior to the meeting.

Students will not be allowed to attend classes until all documentation and fees have been received.
