Courses

Course Schedule for 2013-2014

A Calendar for all upcoming 2013-2014- Confirmation Course dates will be emailed to all families who have attended the Parent Orientation and submitted completed confirmation registration forms, baptismal certificate, course fee, and sponsor documents. Students are not considered registered for the program if the above requirements are not met. They will not be allowed to attend classes until the requirements are me. Incomplete paperwork will be returned.
 

Attending courses

The Sponsor is invited to all courses, however is only required to  attend four courses with the candidate. Parents accompany for Courses 4 and 5.
 

Course Cancellations

If we need to cancel a course due to bad weather, we will post notices on the confirmation page of the web site and our Facebook fan page. If in doubt, please call Julie’s voice mail at 651-762-3632.
 

Homework

Course homework is due each month in order for the candidate to obtain credit for the course.
 

Course substitutions

If your school, the Archdiocese, or another parish is offering a class or program with a similar theme (such as Theology of the Body, Chastity, Vocations, Social Outreach, Liturgy, Eucharistic Conferences, etc), please contact Julie to see if it qualifies for a course substitution.
 

Courses

Course 1: Catholic Social Teaching:  An overview of Catholic Social Teaching. This course will involve the student in faith-based social justice and a student-lead social outreach project.

Required attendance:  Candidate & Sponsor
 

Course 2:  The Creed:  A detailed breaking open of our Catholic beliefs by focusing on the Nicene Creed. Candidates share why they are choosing to live their life as a Catholic.

Course 3: Angels, Saints and Prayer: Candidates will explore prayer, the canonization process, and learn about resources they will use to choose a Confirmation Saint.

Required attendance:  Candidate only
 

Course 4Morality:  Candidates will focus on the virtues, beatitudes and Commandments, making decisions according to a properly formed conscience.

Required attendance:  Candidate & Parents
 

Course 5:  Vocations: Candidates will focus on how to discern what God is calling them to become. They are introduced to different  Catholic Vocations:  Marriage, Priesthood, and Consecrated life.

Required attendance:  Candidate and Parents 
 

Course 6:  Spreading the Gospel:  Candidates will learned how to tell others about their relationship with Christ and have the opportunity to have their own questions about the Catholic faith answered so that they in turn can learn how to explain our faith to others.

Required attendance:  Candidate only
 

Course 7:  The Mass:  A walk through the Mass and the miracle of the Eucharist

Course 8:  Our Catholic Heritage:  This is a self-study. In the spring a packet is provided to candidates, to be used as a self-guided tour through the Cathedral of St. Paul, where they will be confirmed. The focus is on learning the Catholic heritage and history in our region and becoming familiar with the signs and symbols of our faith contained in the architecture of the Cathedral.
